Saint John Nepomuk Chapel
Est. 1854

Welcome to Saint John Nepomuk, the oldest Czech Roman Catholic church in the New World.

Welcome to Saint John Nepomuk Chapel, the oldest Czech church in the New World.  Founded in 1854, Saint John’s has been serving Catholics in the historic Soulard area of Saint Louis for 162 years.  Today we embrace our Czech heritage but our church is attended by people of all backgrounds from all over the Metropolitan Saint Louis Area.

Please join us for the holy sacrifice of the mass Saturday afternoon at 4:30 or Sunday morning at 9:30.  All masses are celebrated in English with Czech hymns on Sunday morning.

ORDINARY TIME
Ordinary time is that part of the year between Christmas and Lent and between Easter and Advent.  This year this first part of Ordinary time is short, lasting only from January 9 until February 28, with Ash Wednesday falling on March 1.

The Soulard 12th Night celebration begins Mardi Gras in Soulard on January 6 and ends on February 28, Fat Tuesday.  One Mardi Gras event that directly affects Saint John Nepomuk is the Grand Parade on Saturday, February 25.  The City will block off Lafayette at Tucker so we can't have 4:30 mass that day.

Join us each week on Saturday at 4:30 pm (except February 25) and Sunday morning at 9:30 for the celebration of the Eucharist.  Saint John Nepomuk is one of the most beautiful churches in the Archdiocese, and we don't preach a watered-down Gospel.  If you enjoy the traditional English language mass and solid Gospel teaching, we could be your new church home.   Or, feel free to join us any weekend.
Visitors are always welcome!  SJN is the perfect place to celebrate the Eucharist on your way to Busch Stadium or Savis Center.  In fact, you can park in Soulard and ride one of the many free shuttles provided by our neighboring merchants.  Just spend a little money in their establishments and save the cost of parking and the hassle of a long walk.  Soulard shuttles will drop you off and pick you up right outside the stadium.

If you'd like to tour our historic church, please contact the rectory at 314.231.0141.

Mass Mob X was a HUGE success!

Mass Mob X was a HUGE success. SjN welcomed more than 500 visitors for the Feast of the Epiphany. We were even visited by Fox 2 news. What a thrill it was to share the Epiphany liturgy with so many and to show off our historic church to so many new people. Thanks to all our members who pulled together to make this happen! It was truly a team effort, especially when our director was in sick bay for most of November and December. There are just too many people to thank individually, but you know who you are and you have our gratitude. We would like to thank Father Paul Rothschild, our main celebrant, and FRANCISCAN Friar Ed Mundwiiller, concelebrant, along with the four wonderful young servers from Saint Dominic Savio parish for making our liturgy even more wonderful than usual.

The hundreds of cookies that were contributed by our members called to mind the time when another multitude was fed so many years ago. Everyone had all the cookies they needed, some took cookies "to go", some cookies went to Saint Vincent de Paul, and there were enough left over for our Hospitality Sunday next week.

Special thanks to the hundreds of people who came, some from great distances, to celebrate the Eucharist with us. We hope to see you again soon.

It was an awesome day.
